Why should I hire refugees?
Many refugees have conquered enormous challenges in order to come to the United States. This determination often proves to be a tremendous asset in the workplace. COMMENTS FROM REFUGEE EMPLOYERS
As the Director of Housekeeping at the Sheraton El Conquistador I have seen my share of employees come and go. However, when I heard about the hundreds of refugees arriving in Tucson I became very interested in learning how we can assist them to be members of our staff and use their multi-cultural and multi-lingual abilities.

Staffing a resort of our size has always been difficult. The ability to recruit and retain associates is greatly enhanced by the services provided by Migration and Refugee Services. Working with Migration and Refugee Services, we have been able to entice refugees to come and work with us. We have raised the wages for many positions, started a shuttle service for them, and provided orientations, training and follow-ups in the associates native language with the assistance of Migration and Refugee Services.

We could not have kept up the quality of service to our guests without the help of the refugee population. They are very much needed and appreciated and have a lot to offer the hospitality industry in general. We are thankful for the efforts of The United States Refugee Resettlement Program, along with MRS.

Our staff in the housekeeping department has become emotionally attached to the refugees who work with us. We look forward to working with new refugees in the future as they are settled in the Tucson area. The benefits that we have gained by learning about other cultures coupled with the hard work and dedication they have demonstrated is invaluable.”

 - Frank D. Grant, Director of Housekeeping, Sheraton El Conquistador

“Thank you for introducing refugees to us. We currently have two who have been with us for more than one year. We are very pleased with their performance and sense of responsibility.”
