Congregate and Home Delivered Meals
What We Do: The provision of nutrition services to older people in a group or home setting. A meal is available five days a week that meets one-third of the recommended dietary allowances for older adults. These meals and other nutrition services are provided to improve the dietary intakes of participants and to offer opportunities to be linked with other community resources.

Eligibility Requirements
Persons aged 60 and over (or spouse regardless of age) who are in greatest social and economic need for meals and/or socialization.

Congregate Meal Sites

 A hot meal is offered on weekdays at a variety of senior centers in Pima County.

All participants are given an opportunity to contribute towards the cost of the meal and there is a suggested donation at each center. Advance registration for meals is required. Transportation vouchers are available on a donation basis for disabled persons aged 60 or over (or spouse regardless of age) who are registered for Van Tran or Handicar through the Regional ADA Office and are unable to afford public transportation to a senior center.

Home Delivered Meals


Eligibility Requirements:
Persons aged 60 or over (or spouse regardless of age) *and disabled persons who are in greatest social and economic need and are at risk of not meeting their daily nutritional requirements and:

1) are home bound and are deficient in two limitations in instrumental activities of daily living such as inability to prepare meals, shop for food, do housework, laundry, etc as determined by an in-home assessment; and:

2) have no other meal preparation assistance available to them *Very limited funding is available for disabled individuals, age-18-59, on a short-term basis.

 

FAQ's

1. How do I get started?
Call 520-624-1562. We will ask for your social security number, birth date, emergency contact number, and other pertinent information.

2. How long will it take for me to get started?
We will come to your home to do an assessment within three working days. If it is determined that you are eligible, you will start on the next possible delivery day.

3. What area do you deliver in?
We deliver in Tucson West of Campbell Ave., South of 22nd St, East of I-10 and I-19, and South of Ajo.  We also deliver in the communities of Marana, Rillito, Picture Rocks, Green Valley, Sahuarita, and Ajo.
4. How much does the meal cost?
We give everyone the opportunity to contribute towards the cost of the meal. The suggested contribution is $2.00 per meal.

5. What time will my meal be delivered?

We have varied delivery days and times. The Marana and Rillito area and the Tucson House are delivered on Tuesday and Thursday. A chilled and a frozen meal are delivered on Tuesday and a chilled and two frozen meals are delivered on Thursday. The Ajo area receives a daily delivery.  Our other Tucson routes and Green Valley and Sahuarita are delivered Monday through Thursday and a frozen meal is provided for the day we do not deliver. Delivery times can vary from 8:00 AM through 3:00 PM.

6. Do you provide meals for special diets?
Our meals are low in fat, sugar, and salt but are not "special diet" meals (menu). Call Mobile Meals of Tucson at 622-1600 if you need a special diet meal.  To learn more about Mobile Meals see www.mobilemealsoftucson.org.
