SUPPORTING CCS
Charitable gifts and volunteerism play a vital role in our ability to care for those we serve - children, families, elders and persons with disabilities.
You may support our work with your time (see “Volunteer Opportunities”) and/or with a monetary gift directly to Catholic Community Services or to the CCS Foundation. Both are recognized by the IRS as 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations, and gifts to CCS and CCS Foundation are deductible for tax purposes to the full extent allowed by law.
CCS is also recognized as a qualified agency under the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit Program for the Working Poor. That means your gift to CCS may cost you absolutely nothing! See “Arizona Charitable Tax Credit” below.

Arizona Charitable Tax Credit
Through the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit program, the State of Arizona encourages charitable donations to qualifying agencies that benefit low-income or working poor families. CCS is a qualifying agency. You may earn up to a $400 maximum credit (for married couples filing jointly) or a $200 maximum credit (for individual or head of household filers). Here’s how it works.
A tax credit actually reduces your tax bill dollar-for-dollar. If you pay state income tax, all you have to do is:
-
Make a donation to Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona
-
Itemize your deductions on your state income tax return
-
Include AZ Form 321 with your Arizona Income Tax return
The Charitable Tax Credit is completely separate from the Private School Tuition Credit (CTSO for Catholic schools) and the Public School Activity Credit. You may participate in any or all of these programs.
For more information about the charitable tax credit opportunity, please consult your tax advisor or visit the Arizona Department of Revenue website: www.azdor.gov (click on “individual” then “tax credits” then select "charitable tax credit").
Matching Gifts
Many businesses will match in full or in part any charitable gift made by employees or retirees. Ask your Employee Relations/Human Resources Office if your company has a matching gifts program and how to request a matching gift. In most cases, it’s as simple as enclosing the company’s matching gift form along with your donation.
Gifts in Honor or in Memory
Remember a loved one or celebrate a special occasion with a memorial or tribute gift to Catholic Community Services. A special card in your name will be sent to the honoree or to the family of the deceased. Gift amount will remain confidential.
Donate Your Car
Catholic Community Services also accepts donations of automobiles, boats, and recreational vehicles. For more information, call 1-800-321-8179 or use the link at the top of this page to initiate your vehicle donation online.
CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES FOUNDATION
Because charitable gifts are becoming increasingly important to CCS’ ability to provide for those in need, the CCS Foundation was established. The Foundation has a separate Board of Directors whose combined efforts will focus on building philanthropic support for the charitable work of Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona through community awareness and education, donor relationships, and stewardship. The CCS Foundation raises funds:
• through its annual event Una Noche de Alegria – A Joyful Night
• for special projects and capital needs
• to help continue the work of CCS well into the future
The following types of gifts, made to the CCS Foundation, can have a profound and lasting impact on the services of Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona.
Gifts of Stock/Securities
Donating appreciated stock/securities allows you to avoid capital gains tax and maximize your charitable contribution. Your broker can transfer your gift of stock electronically to CCS Foundation; please contact Liz McMahon at (520) 670-0809 for details. You may also mail unendorsed certificates and stock power (separately, please) by registered mail to:

Affect the Future with Your Planned Gift
A planned gift is legally arranged by you and may take many forms. Some planned gifts are very simple arrangements, like a bequest made through a will. Other more complex planned gifts can be a key component in financial planning for yourself and your heirs.
Gifts made through estate and financial plans can:
• provide additional income for you and/or your heirs
• reduce income and estate taxes
• help fulfill your personal and charitable objectives with the financial resources you have built throughout your lifetime
Bequests
Making a gift through your will or living trust is one of the easiest ways to make a planned gift. Bequests to “Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona, Inc.” or “Catholic Community Services Foundation” may be made for a specific dollar amount or specified property, a percentage of your estate, residue of your estate, or as a contingent in the event that one of your beneficiaries predeceases. If you wish to designate your gift to a particular CCS agency or program, please make the bequest to “Catholic Community Services Foundation for the benefit of…(specify agency/program). ”
Other Planned Gifts
There are many other forms of planned gifts. They include:
Life Insurance
TOD (Transfer on Death) or POD (Payable on Death) accounts
Charitable Gift Annuity
Charitable Remainder Unitrust or Annuity Trust
Catholic Community Services will work with you, your attorney or accountant to explain the many gift opportunities available and the financial advantages of each. Contact Liz McMahon at 520-670-0809 for more information or to arrange a confidential meeting to discuss planned giving.
If you have arranged for a bequest or other planned gift for the benefit of Catholic Community Services, please let us know. We’d love to thank you now! With your permission, you will be recognized as a member of the “Circle of Light,” so that others might be inspired by your generosity.
